CAD/Textile Design Technician - Fall River and Boston, MA

Merida caters to a high-end design clientele and our products are available at fine carpet and furniture stores nationwide.  Our headquarters are in Boston, Massachusetts where we manage sales, marketing, finance and workroom functions. Our product design and development is based in a weaving facility that we operate in Fall River, Mass.

We are seeking a highly talented and motivated individual to join our product development and design team as a Textile Design/CAD Technician. This position will report to Merida’s Creative Director and also requires collaboration with Merida’s weaving technicians, operations managers and sales team.  

This position will start as a part-time hire and grow to full-time as our needs and business grow.  The position is based in Fall River, Mass. and may require about 10% of time in our Boston location.

Key Results

  • Achieve new product development and sales goals
  • Increase sales of Merida product manufactured in Fall River; develop new capabilities with existing technology and machinery 
  • Under guidance of Creative Director, develop and design product to achieve targeted sales growth by channel (Merida Home, Studio and Hospitality)
  • Develop new business in custom design contract segment of industry

Key Activities

  • CAD design work on all tufted orders
  • Understanding technology of tufting machine; working closely with partners in Sweden who designed the machine and provide support
  • “Master” the capabilities of our weaving/tufting machines to improve our productivity and output
  • Enhance Merida’s in-house design and help company receive recognition for its capabilities
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve textile production issues by proposing alternative techniques using artistic ability to edit and make changes to original designs.

Critical Factors for Success

  • Technical skills: Photoshop/Illustrator, CAD (what other specifics?), Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. U4ia software skills desired
  • Demonstrated creative ability
  • Strong sense of color and interior design styles
  • Knowledge of textile/weaving design and product development processes
  • Commercial sense and market knowledge
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload with multiple deadlines
  • Strong listening skills and experience assimilating product feedback
  • Demonstrated pro-active thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to be an effective team player and manage relationships with team and key business partners.
