Rugs are an integral part of our everyday lives -- we walk on them, lay on them and let our children crawl on them. So shouldn’t we be worried what is in them? We think so, which is why we spent two years collaborating with our Belgian supplier to develop our new Pure Collection.
Made of 100% all-natural, un-dyed wool and backed with organic jute, these rugs are the perfect way to carpet a study, bedroom, playroom, or nursery in a healthy, safe and environmentally responsible way. Certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) as “Green Label Plus” these rugs have very low VOC’s and help improve indoor air quality.

The CRI Green Label Plus Certification marks Pure as an extremely low VOC rug. VOCs or Volatile Organic Compounds are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. Although many things emit VOCs in our environment, concentrations of VOCs are consistently higher indoors - up to ten times higher than outdoors. Carpets have historically been a key source of in-home VOCs.
VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. They are particularly harmful to children and those prone to respiratory problems. For healthy adults VOCs are often the hidden cause of headaches, chest, nose, throat and skin irritations.
The key to avoiding effects of VOCs is to keep exposure low. This means paying attention to the products you are bringing into your home and when unavoidable such as when painting or using many cleaning products, being sure to ventilate well.

Pure is made of natural materials and contains no dyes or toxic chemicals such as pesticides or brominated flame-retardants. Using the natural variation in sheep coloring for its neutral tones and wool’s natural resistance to flame and pests, Pure naturally accomplishes what chemicals do for traditional rugs.
Another area where Pure surpasses most rugs is with its natural backing made from Jute, a plant grown in India. Rug backings often contain toxic glues and petroleum based chemicals. Our Jute backing is mixed with natural latex and provides all the support of a chemical based backing without adding the toxins to your home.
Pure is so pure that it can be composted in industrial composters at the end of its life-cycle rather than put in a land fill where more than 4 billion pounds of solid waste in the US ends up each year. Pure is not only good for you and your family but also good for the earth too!
